Your NTT union leaders are calling you together because we now have a voice in improving the procedures for appointment, reappointment, evaluation and promotion for non-tenure-track faculty. We intend to enhance your professional work lives of NTT faculty, but we can't do it without you!
Now that the contract is ratified, all decanal units are required to initiate a process to establish criteria and procedures for appointment, reappointment, evaluation, and promotion for all NTT faculty. The process is to include consultation with tenure-track and non-tenure-track faculty and the next two months are a critical time for your involvement.
Interim EVPAA Edward’s letter of February 29 instructs the deans and chancellors that “your unit’s proposed criteria and procedures for your NTT faculty must be submitted to me by July 27, 2012.”
Additionally Edwards noted, “You are free to establish whatever process you wish in order to develop your unit’s criteria and procedures, but you must consult with both non-tenure-track and tenure-track faculty in your unit as you do so.”
As your unit talks about the needs of research, instructional, and clinical NTT faculty, you may find the AAUP-AFT contract proposals suggestive as they discuss possible promotion and appointment procedures. The existing procedures for clinical faculty (See Section H) are also important as they are generally the best available at Rutgers for non-tenure-track appointments.
We're holding three meetings to talk about needs and models and muster support for this university-wide effort by rank due to the complexities involved. We have arranged the following meetings to be held at the Busch Campus Center. Please note the room number for each meeting.
