| Important Information for Part Time Teachers TIME SENSITIVE -- READ NOW ! Teachers who have been reduced from a full-time equivalent (1.0 position) to less than full time are eligible for the Part Time Teacher Program through the Teachers Retirement Association (TRA). This program allows teachers to pay into TRA the amount that would have been taken out of their paychecks as if they had been working full time. This requires the teacher to pay the additional amount for the extra time (both employee and employer amount). Even though this can be a large amount of money, over the years it can result in a significant addition to your pension. It is very important that you consider the Part Time Teacher Program with TRA if you teach less than full time. Call TRA at 651-296-2409 and talk to a retirement specialist to investigate the opportunity to enhance your future pension or email inquiries to info.tra@state.mn.us You must apply by October 1st to avoid paying a penalty of $5.00 per day (counting weekends) in order to participate. This is governed by Minnesota Statute 354.66 Qualified Part-Time Teachers: Membership in Association and 354.52 Reports. |
